I apologize for using the word "cray" in my title...no I'm not.
First of all, I sincerely believe our future children are doomed. Everyone's lives around us, including myself, have been swallowed whole and consumed by social media. It's really kind of sad. Everywhere you look people are looking down at their phones, swiping through Instagram pictures, scrolling through tweets or watching Vine videos. And, yes mom, I know I'm not innocent either. But I'm certainly not as bad as some people....
I mean come on, some 4th grade students I student taught have tried finding me on Facebook... No, I will not be your friend, you are 9 and I take pictures in bars too much. Kidding!
But, if you use social media in the right way, it can be a wonderful thing. I've made some lovely friends across the country and even the world! I find inspiring words, funny articles and breath taking pictures all through friends/those I stalk posting on twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
(Although Facebook annoys me a lot because everyone is constantly trying to one-up everyone else thinking their lives are better than yours. All you see is "OMG! He proposed and I said YES! Look at my huge rock!" "Here's the millionth picture of my bundle of joy" "I bought a house!" "I got your dream job!" "I saved a life!" "I fed 1,000 starving children!" "Your life sucks and mine is sooooo much better than yours!"
Which is precisely why I hardly go on Facebook, thank you very much.)
If anything social media has made me a little happier, a little more positive and certainly more connected to the world. (Did you see what Miley Cyrus did?! ...again, joking....but seriously, did you?)
And I especially love knowing what my best friends are up to, especially those far away (Hi Anne).
Did that kind of answer the question?
xo
I really enjoyed your post. I love blogging (and Facebook, a bit too much I believe). Social media is sometimes the only way for me to connect with friends who went abroad (and soon I'm going to one of the expats as well). Also social media has brought me to meet lovely people from around the world, some of them I'm meeting on a regular basis every few months. :) xx Olivia

Wow! That's so awesome! I hope I can meet some people I've met through social media some day too.
DeleteThanks for stopping by :)
I completely agree that our children are doomed. I didn't even get a cell phone until I graduated high school! Now my little sister has one in middle school. What is happening?!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it awful! I got my first cell phone when I turned 16. I worked with some 8-10 year olds last summer who had nicer phones than me...so, so sad.
